What is Mishloach Manot?
What is Mishloach Manot? A Hebrew term from the Book of Esther, Mishloach Manot means "sending portions." Sending small packages of food to one another on Purim was established as a Mitzvah (commandment) in celebration of Jewish survival and success in the face of adversity, and to deepen the feeling of Jewish unity.

The mitzvah of mishloach manot has two main functions — to instill harmony and love in the Jewish people, and to remind ourselves that as we celebrate the holiday of Purim, we can not forget about the needs of the less fortunate in our community.

*Note: for Mishloach Manot to count for a halachic mitzvah, it should include two bracha categories of food items that are ready to eat. In addition to the included honey, which is ready to eat, another food item must be added to this package to count for a halachic mitzvah.
